A Big Shot

Shotover River franked his recent good form by easily winning the Coffee Club Maiden Handicap over 1700m at Ipswich today.

Starting from a wide gate, Ashley Butler drove him from the gates and let him settle in third place, three to four lengths behind the leaders. Rounding the home turn he then took a gap between the two leaders and put the race beyond doubt, drawing away to win easily.

“We have always believed he will be a good middle distance horse and were looking forward to see him run over a bit of ground today. He should improve further as we stretch him out in distance and think that 2000m will really suit him judging by his pedigree. Ashley rode a fantastic race today and we are also happy to repay him for the effort he has put in.” said Chris Meagher

The lightly raced, well bred 3 year old Savabeel gelding has now been in the money in two of his three starts for Meagher Racing.

It was also the first winner that the Meaghers’ have trained for prominent owners Heran Racing. “It was fantastic to get a winner for the Heran’s, they have been great supporters of ours since we commenced at Eagle Farm and we are looking forward to training many more winners for them” commented Dan Meagher.
