Climbing To The Top

Lascar showed yesterday that he could be a stayer in the making by winning the All Computer Services 1600m Maiden at the Sunshine Coast.

Having only his second start, the son of Monashee Mountain was sent out a $2.40 favourite, despite drawing the outside of the field. After jumping well he was trapped three wide before jockey, Ashley Butler, decided to go forward and lead. Once there he relaxed very well and proved too strong in the run home to win by two lengths.

“Things did not go to plan, as I was hoping to slot into the field just behind the pace. When I couldn’t, I decided the best thing was to let him roll to the front. It was a very good run and he should be a much better horse next preparation as he felt like he could stay all day,” said Butler

“ That was a really tough win and it showed that the horse may have a bright future in staying races. It was also great to win a race for Neville Bell (BRC Chairman) and his wife and hopefully there will be plenty more,” commented co trainer Dan Meagher.
