Doctor David showed that perseverance does pay off when he won the 1200m Club Partners Class 6 Handicap at Eagle Farm. After winning his first start this preparation he then ran into some very bad luck in his subsequent two starts, before bouncing back into the winners circle.

Jumping well from his good barrier, jockey Ryan Wiggins was able to slot him into the perfect spot just off the pace, before pushing out in the straight to run home strongly and win comfortably.

“It was great to see him win again, he has been really unlucky at his last two starts, but still finished in the money. He still does not know what it is all about and can also get very stirred up at the races. He will learn quite a bit from today and it will also help to build his confidence. He will improve further as he learns and experiences more” said Dan Meagher.

“ We were very happy with the win today and our other horse (Harada Bay) also ran a terrific race from his wide barrier. Ryan rode Doctor David to perfection and it was a very good win in the end. This horse is on the up and there will be more wins in store for him, especially as he matures mentally. He is only four and is lightly raced so he will be much better next preparation. Unfortunately his owner, Geoff McWilliam was not here today but I am sure he would have been cheering him on in front of his television,” commented Chris Meagher.

“We have had a bit of bad luck over the past week, with a couple of very good horses suffering some problems, so this win is a real boost to everyone and it shows that when you keep putting in the returns do come” commented John Meagher
