Shotover River proved that he definitely has staying potential by winning the Bruce Lynton BMW Plate over 1800m at the Gold Coast. Up quite considerably in class, but down in the weights, the son of Savabeel was given the perfect ride by Ashley Butler who was able to peel out turning for home and win convincingly.
“It was great to win another race for Heran Racing, who have been wonderful supporters of ours. We felt that this horse would run very well today, but he was just short of peak fitness so it is credit to him, winning the way he did. It was a 10 out of 10 ride from Ashley, who used his good gate to give him a nice “cushy” run, which paved the way for the end result. He has already won over longer distances so we are looking forward to him continuing in this vein for the rest of his preparation. Judging by what we saw today there are more wins in store.” Commented Dan Meagher
Chris Meagher was also full of praise for his charger, saying “The win today was terrific and showed just what an out and out trier this horse is. He always give 100% and it is a pleasure to be able to train horses like him, as you know that they will always run well. It was great to repay Ashley for the work he puts in, as despite coming out of his time with us, he is still at the stables at 4am to ride work and is showing maturity in his race riding.”
