KEEP ON ROCKIN'
Feb 24, 2014
Kainji Rock continued a successful week for Meagher Racing by wining the Beerwah Hotel Plate over 1600m at the Sunshine Coast.
The son of Fastnet Rock was quickly out of the stalls and jockey, Ashley Butler, was happy to allow him to sit outside the leader for the major part of the race. On tuning for home, he was swamped by horses coming around the field and although conceding the lead with 100m to go, was able to find something extra to fight back and win by a narrow margin.
“That was a really tough win and he showed a tremendous amount to courage, fighting back the way that he did. He ran a good race last start and we were pretty confident going into tonight, especially with the step up in distance. He is not a horse that has a quick sprint, being more a one pacer but he just keeps going. The win probably showed that he will get further and we will give him every opportunity to do so. It was also great to win another race for Heran Racing who have been good supporters of ours.” Commented Dan Meagher
Jockey Ashley Butler was also full of praise, saying “ He jumped really well so I was happy to sit outside the leader. But, not having any cover caused him to pull and it took a while for him to settle. As such, I thought when we were headed, the over racing had taken its toll, but to his credit he dug really deep and fought back to get there in the end. It was a very strong effort on his part and all credit to the Meaghers’ for having him fit enough to be able to do that.”
The win took Kainji Rocks’ record since being with Meagher Racing to 3 wins and 2 seconds from only 9 starts.
