Smart Huss made a brilliant start to his racing career by easily winning the Bundaberg Race Club Maiden Handicap over 1300m at Eagle Farm.

Jockey Ric McMahon was able to settle the three year old in fourth position, one off the rail from his good barrier. From there it was just a matter of waiting for the opportunity to move into some clear running in the straight. Once that was achieved he then powered over the leader to record a soft win.

“He has been a bit difficult at the barriers and we had to do quite a bit of work with him before he gained his barrier certificate. It was great that it finally paid off as he walked straight into the gates and won like a good horse. Ric rode him perfectly and he was strong on the line. We have a good opinion of him and think he will improve a great deal from this run. “ Commented co trainer Dan Meagher.

The son of Husson, who was bred by Patinak Farm and bought by Wade Burridge at the 2012 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for $65,000. “Wade sold shares in him to some friends and associates so it was great to see them experience a win at his first start. They have allowed us to take our time with him and I think today showed that it was worth it. Hopefully he can now move on to bigger and better things.” said Chris Meagher
