After being a beaten odds on favorite at his last two starts, punters were very happy to see Rojo Grande win the Carlton Mid Three Year Old Colts and Geldings Maiden at Doomben.
Starting again as a $1.90 favorite, the son of ill-fated Northern Meteor lived up to the potential he had shown in scoring by a long neck, after being given the run of the race by jockey Ashley Butler.
“It is great to get that win as we have always had a good opinion of this horse. Things just did not go right for him in his first prep but he has now learnt what it is all about and we are expecting his winning form to continue. That run should improve him further, both physically and mentally, as he seemed to get a little lost once he hit the front, but he shouldn’t in the future. “ Commented Dan Meagher.
“ The owners are a great bunch of people and it was good to win a race for them. Ashley has been doing quite a bit of work on him so he knows him very well and what he is capable of. It was fitting that the owners repaid him for his efforts by giving him the ride.” Commented Chris Meagher.
Patriarch of the training partnership, John, was also all smiles after the race commenting that the stable is really starting to fire and that many good horses were coming to hand so is hopeful that the winners will just keep coming.
