Seonia secured her first win at her fourth start by winning the David Reid Homes 1600m Maiden at the Sunshine Coast.

Starting favourite in a capacity field, jockey Ryan Wiggins had her towards the rear for most of the trip before bringing her through the field upon straightening. Although racing erratically and causing some interference she managed to get to the line well and score by a little over a length.

“She was really unlucky at her last two starts and probably could have won both of them, so we were pretty confident she would run well today. Ryan had a tough ride as she did not do much right and was all over the place in the straight, but we were grateful she came through in the end. Being by Sebring out of an English mare we confident she will get further and she has the potential to turn into a very nice staying filly.” Commented Dan Meagher

Brother, Chris was also happy after the win, stating “ Finally, the owners (BPK Racing & Cambridge Syndicates and the Schembris’) have got quite a few horses with us and recently they have just been running seconds so it was fantastic to finally break the hoodoo and get a winner. She is a nice filly and will definitely get further based on that run.”

Patriarch of the family training enterprise, John was also pleased after the race. “The Sunshine Coast is a lovely track, but it can be a tough one on horses as it is uphill most of the way from the 1600m start. She did a great job to win and will learn quite a bit from today. Once she does she should make a lovely 2000m type  and we are looking forward to getting her there. But, the one thing we won’t do is push her too hard as she is not a robust type.”
