Like the unique island of Lake Como in Italy, Comacina showed he was something a bit special after he scored a very easy win in the 1100m Original Super Starfish Class 1 Handicap at the Gold Coast.

The Meagher stable apprentice Ashley Butler had the son of Dane Shadow coasting behind a good speed until the corner. After straightening, Butler dived to the inside, pushing the horse through a narrow gap before surging to the lead and winning quite easily.

“ We have been really happy with the way this horse has been going and we were quietly confident going into this race, the only doubt we had was whether it would be a little short for him. He really shows up on race day and seems to thrive on the atmosphere. Ash did a great job and surprised everyone by going to the rail, but good on him as he backed himself, which is what you want your jockeys to do. That is two from two for this horse and I think there will be quite a few more, especially as he matures further. Most of the ownership group live around the Gold Coast so it was great for them having a winner close to home. It is also great to deal with such a nice bunch of people.” Commented Dan Meagher

Patriarch, John Meagher was also not short of a word, saying “ Racing is a funny game, we went to the Sunshine Coast yesterday expecting our horses to be very competitive, but for one reason or another they did not perform up to expectation. Then we come here today, have a winning double plus a second and a third. A great performance from the team. This guy is going to be a very, very nice horse, especially once he matures further. You can’t ask for more than two wins from two starts, but we haven’t seen the best of him yet.”
