Smart Huss proved that his failure at the Sunshine Coast last start was just a blip on the radar, as he easily won the Book Your Own Marquee at the Ipswich Cup 1350m Class 3 Plate. After jumping from an awkward gate, jockey Ric McMahon was able to have the son of Husson perfectly positioned mid field before guiding him down the middle of the track to win by a length.

“His last start was inexplicable, it just must have been the heavy track and the 59kgs, as we had him totally checked over and nothing was found to be amiss. As such it was great to see him come out and do that today. We have a good opinion of him and expect him to show quite a bit of improvement from the race, both physically and mentally.” Commented Chris Meagher

Dan Meagher was also full of praise for his charger, saying, “last campaign he proved he was up with the best 3 year olds in Queensland so we expected him to win first up, but he obviously did not handle the conditions. Today we had a good track and showed his true ability, giving Ric an armchair ride and winning easily in the end. It has been frustrating, as we have had to scratch him numerous times due to either bad barriers or wet tracks, so we have to really thank the owners for being so patient and are very happy at being able to repay them with another win.”
