Stable apprentice, Sairyn Fawke, achieved a milestone at Doomben last weekend, by riding his first Saturday metropolitan winner.

The strong natural lightweight ,who can go to scale at 50kgs, was entrusted with the ride on My Quilter by trainer Stu Mackinnon. Rating the horse perfectly in front he went on to win easily by 1 1/4 lengths.

"Sairyn rode him a treat. He listens to instructions and has got a very big future," Mackinnon said after the race.

"We are extremely pleased that Sairyn has broken his duck, he deserves it. He does a huge amount of work, is very dedicated and an asset to our stable. We see him as a real up and coming rider, especially as he is so light and strong. We look very closely at his race riding and guide him accordingly, pointing out both his good and bad decisions and we believe that has helped since he joined us. He can claim 3kgs in the city and 1.5kgs at the provincials so we are more than happy to have him on our horses and are sure other trainers will continue to take notice." Commented Dan Meagher
