Phoenix Force scored his fourth career win, by toppling odds on pop Sharpin Lady, in the 900m Cater Care Australia Class 3 plate at the Gold Coast. After jumping well and settling just behind the favourite, who shot to a clear lead from the start, jockey Sairyn Fawke was able to get the best out of the son of Dylan Thomas in the straight, to gradually wear down the leader and win on the line.

“His last couple of runs were probably a little disappointing compared to his first two, but I think we have really found the trick to him now. When you look at his form, he has always performed well when fresh, so all we have done with him since his last run is work him on the treadmill and in the pool, keeping him right away from the track. As he had the residual fitness from four runs, this just kept him up to the mark and very fresh. The results were there for everyone to see today.” Commented Dan Meagher.

“Sairyn transferred his indentures to us about a month ago and although he has ridden a number of winners since joining us, this is the first for Meagher Racing, so we would like to thank and congratulate him on the ride. He did just what we asked and his claim probably was the difference between winning and losing today. It was also terrific to win another race for Heran Racing and we are grateful for their continued support.”  Commented co trainer Chris Meagher.

Patriarch of the family training partnership, John Meagher was also at the races to see his charger win and had the following to say. “ The boys and our staff are doing a wonderful job. We had a good season last year and are very confident of this one being even better. We are so lucky to have our own treadmill and have really started to use that to our advantage now, as it enables the horses to have a bit of a break in their track routines as well as giving us the opportunity to work them with no weight on their backs. It is also fantastic for injured horses as using the elevation we can transfer their weight onto the legs we want. What we have done with this horse is a perfect example of the treadmills benefits and how it can be a decisive training tool.”
