SLICING THEM UP

Dunlap continued his good form by winning the 1400m Marj Belsham Class 1 Handicap at the Gold Coast.
Ridden by stable apprentice Sairyn Fawke, the son of Guillotine jumped well and was perfectly placed, third, in the run. Turning for home, he was taken around the leaders heels and finished the race off strongly, for a tough win.
“Not many horses can win a Class 1 straight after their Maiden, so it was a super effort. Sairyn repaid our confidence in him with a very good ride and it was a real benefit to be able to use his claim. The horse is not there yet and is still immature, especially mentally. He did not travel down to the Gold Coast well and was very stirred up prior to the race. But he showed that he is a horse in the making by running a great race. He will probably have a couple of weeks at the farm to recover from the run and then we can look at another race.” Commented Dan Meagher
John Meagher, who is also a part owner, was also a very pleased man after the race, saying “ Dave (Racing Manager Dave Bizzaca) bought this horse when we went to the Karaka sales and we have had him since he was a yearling. We have always thought that he had ability, but has always been a bit of a handful and he will be much better once he matures. I need to say a big thanks to all the owners, many of whom live in Asia for being so patient and allowing us to bring him along slowly. The benefits of which we are starting to see and I see him being a much better horse next year.”
“We are rapt that he has won another one. He has only been out of the money twice in his life and there were excuses for those runs. We haven’t had that many runners recently and this will be a bit of a boost to all the staff, who have been working tirelessly. That said, our runners should increase quite dramatically in September, as there are quite a few horses ready race and we are expecting them to all go well.” Commented Chris Meagher
