Red Claw bought up two wins in two days for Meagher Racing with a devastating last to first win in the Bassett Barks Pty Ltd 1000m Maiden at the Sunshine Coast.

After jumping with the field, jockey Anthony Allen allowed the son of Bianconi to drift back to the rear of the field before unleashing him in the straight, where he quickly gathered up his rivals to score an impressive win, easing down.

“It is always good to win a race, especially for BRC Chairman Neville Bell and his wife Mary, who have been good supporters of the stable. His work leading into this was first class, with our major worry being whether the race would be too short. Anthony rode him perfectly and followed instructions to the letter, giving him every opportunity to finish the race off. He will improve from this both physically and mentally and we expect him to get over further ground in time.” Commented Dan Meagher

Chris Meagher was also delighted after the win. “This horse has always shown ability, but was a bit of a handful the first time in. This time he has come back much better mentally and I think that has helped him enormously. Also quite a bit of credit should go to our apprentice, Sairyn Fawke, who has been riding him every day and has helped to get him to where he is now.”

Family patriarch, John Meagher was also full of praise for the team effort. “Everyone at the stable does a tremendous job with our horses and it can be a bit thankless at times. So, when you win a race it is terrific to see how everyone gets a lift from it.”
