Devine Dice proved the punters right with and exciting first up victory in the 900m Happy 21st Henry & Lilly QTIS 2 Year Old Maiden at the Gold Coast. After jumping with the field, jockey Dan Griffin was able to allow the son of Casino Price to settle just behind a very fast pace and work strongly over the last 100m to claim the leader on the line.
"It was an excellent win, especially considering this race was probably a little short for him. Dan judged the pace of the race very well and timed his run to perfection. This guy has just kept improving, has grown into a lovely horse and will further improve from this race, as he still did quite a few things wrong. We are certainly looking forward to getting him up over a bit more ground, as the slower pace will suit him far better." Commented Chris Meagher
"It was a funny story buying this fellow as there was a few of us having lunch at the Magic Millions sale when he came into the ring. Dave, our racing manager was sitting with us and the next thing we knew he had bought him, paying only about $22k. We hadn't even looked at him, but as Dave said he had a fantastic pedigree and was probably ignored as he was on the small side. But he has developed into a very nice big animal. We have quite a few old and new owners in this horse and for a few of them it is their first horse, so it is a fantastic thrill. I can't thank Chris and all the staff for the hard work they have put into our 2 year olds and we are now seeing that come to fruition, as they are all running extremely well. We still have a few to go to the races and we are confident they will keep our strike rate going." Commented John Meagher
