The Iliad scored an impressive win in the BRC Spring Carnival Open Handicap over 1800m at Eagle Farm. Starting from an awkward barrier, jockey Brad Stewart went forward from the outset and was able to gain an easy lead. The first 1200m were run at a very slow pace and with Stewart being able to dictate terms it made it impossible for anything to come from behind. On turning for home and moving to the middle of the track, where the going was better, he sprinted quickly to win easily.

"Credit where it is due, that was a peach of a ride from Brad as he basically gave the rest of the field no chance after being able to set the pace the way he did. This fellow has had a great prep, moving through his grades very well. So to finish this campaign winning an Open Handicap is terrific for the owners, especially Colleen and Dennis Walker who have been great supporters of ours. He has been in work for quite some time so he will go out for a break now and should come back later in the year to hopefully tackle some better races." Commented Chris Meagher.

The win was also a great birthday present for co trainer John Meagher. "That was a great win and terrific birthday present. It was always our intention to go forward from the awkward barrier, but not necessarily lead, however, Brad summed things up well and rated him perfectly. Our horses are all going really well so it is a credit to Chris and the staff for the job they are doing."
