Sheza Yankee was sent out a short priced favourite in the 1200m Sky Racing Maiden Plate at the Gold Coast and justified her price by scoring a comfortable win. Ridden by Ronnie Stewart, the daughter of All American jumped quickly, but had to do some work to get across to the rail from her middle gate. Once there she travelled well and worked home to win by 3/4 of a length.

"She has always showed promise, but has done quite a bit wrong in her previous races, so it was good to see her basically get it right and score a decent win. She is a bit tricky and Ronnie has been riding her in her trials/jump outs so he knew what she was like and that helped in the end. That run will improve her and the experience will also do her the world of good, so we will look to run her through her grades and I am sure there will be more wins in store." Comment Chris Meagher

Co trainer John Meagher was also pleased with the performance. "It was great to see her do things right, as we have put quite a bit of work into her race manners and fiddling with her gear. The owners are all long standing clients of ours so it was extra special to get a winner for them. It was also great for Ronnie to ride his first winner in Queensland for us, as he has been coming in and riding work so it was nice to see his efforts repaid. As usual, our staff have to be congratulated on their efforts in getting our horses to the races in the finest shape possible."
