After missing the start and settling towards the rear of the field, Comacina, under the guidance of Luke Dittman, made a searching run around the field from the 600m mark to join the leaders in the straight and win the 1800m the BRC Membership Class 5 Handicap at Eagle Farm.
"That was his fourth start this preparation and it has has taken some time to get him to his peak. But he was spot on today and we felt he would run well. As he drew quite wide, our plan was to go forward but thankfully Luke went to plan "B" when he was slow away and just allowed him to settle back and get into a nice rhythm. We were very pleased with the way he finished off and on that run you would think he would get a little further." Commented stable foreman Andy Kermond.
John Meagher was also full of praise for horse and rider. "Thankfully Luke knows the horse well and when he missed the kick it was a godsend that he allowed him to come back, rather than tracking forward, where he would have been caught wide and we probably would have had quite a different result. He had to lump 59kgs today and to be honest not many horses can win with that type of weight, especially over 1800m, so it was a super effort. This horse has been with us from when we first started in Brisbane so we have to thank the owners for their support over quite a period of time and congratulate them on his sixth win. Also I can't forget our staff who continue to do a wonderful job."
