Although John Meagher has won numerous group races in Australia and Singapore, Savanna Amour gave him his first group winner whilst training in partnership with son Chris, when she was victorious in the 1400m Angus Armanasco Stakes at Caulfield. Renowned international jockey Joao Moreira, was able to secure a perfect run, jumping and sitting behind the leaders one off the fence and peeling out turning for home. In a three way struggle to the line, the daughter on Love Conquers All was able to prevail and win by a decisive, but short margin.

"It was a wonderful win and congratulations to Grant Morgan (Ontract Thoroughbreds) and all of the owners, who now have a black type winning filly. We were confident of her running well today, especially after she drew a good gate and we were able to obtain the services of Joao. Her last run was terrific as she was caught wide with no cover and still finished third. That race really bought her on and her work since had been excellent, so she proved us correct. It was also a great ride by Joao and it was to our benefit that Grant was able to retain his services. Horses just run for him, it is quite uncanny, we saw that when he rode in Singapore and has really just continued to improve his skill in Hong Kong. I also have to say that it is a real honour to be able to share the training honours with my son Chris, who has been doing a wonderful job. Also quite a bit of thanks must go to Pat Carey, who has allowed us to keep the horses at his Mornington stables and has also kept a very close eye on them." Commented John Meagher.

"It is great to win a Group race as a fully fledged trainer with Dad and I would also like to pass on my congratulations to the owners and thank Grant Morgan for all of the support he has given us over the years. This filly has always been a bit special and we have had a very good opinion of her from day one. She has really thrived in Melbourne and her runs there, against quality opposition, have been very good. So for her to take the next step and win a Group race is extremely pleasing. So much early work went into her in Brisbane so it world be remiss of me to not say what a wonderful job our staff have done and she is a real credit to them." Commented Chris Meagher
