Savanna Amour stamped herself as a quality filly in winning the Group 3 1200m Gold Coast Guineas. It was her second Group success in as many starts, previously winning the Group 2 Angus Armanasco in Melbourne.

Jumping from a good barrier, jockey Ronnie Stewart was able to have the filly travelling nicely in fourth spot, one off the fence. Turning for home she accelerated quickly, drawing level with the leaders and from there fought doggedly to line line for a narrow but decisive win.

"We have always had a tremendous opinion of this filly and she just continues to improve. She was not fully "screwed down" for this, but we still expected her to run very well and knew that her class would prevail. Ronnie rode her a treat, having her in the right spot and timing the finish to perfection. Congratulations must also go to Grant Morgans at Ontrack Thoroughbreds and the team of owners, they are a great bunch and really enjoy their racing. Finally I have to say that our staff are as much a part of this as anyone, they do a tremendous job and it was great to have my son Paul here and being part of the win. Both he and Andy Kermond have really stepped up to the plate since Chris left for Singapore and it is terrific for me to have them to support me." Commented John Meagher
