Gatlinburg scored his second career victory in winning the 1000m Barrier Reef Polls Class 1 Handicap at Ipswich. Jumping from a wide gate, jockey Bridget Grylls allowed the son of Husson to drop back to last and with a good speed up at the front was able to storm home to win decisively by a short margin.
"He has always raced reasonably close to the pace over 1200m and he has not really travelled that well, wanting to over race. So we decided to drop him back in distance, where the speed would be much quicker and just let him travel where he was comfortable. It worked a treat and he really stormed home the last 100m, with Bridget riding him a treat. It was nice to win another race for Paul Fudge from Waratah Thoroughbreds, who has given us three nice horses to look after from his large team. Andy Kermond and the staff continue to do a great job with all of our team and they have all been running really well, so a big thank you to them for their dedication." Commented John Meagher
