Savanna Amour defied a massive betting drift ($8 to $15) to score a narrow but impressive win in the 1200m, Group 3 Ladbrokes Cockram Stakes at Caulfield. Having blinkers back on after her defeat on a Heavy track at Sandown in the Bletchingly Stakes, jockey Ben Melham had her in a good spot from the start and although crowded for room turning for home was able to find a gap and surge to the line.

"We have just opened our boutique stable at Mornington and Chris (Meagher) is in charge there, so this is an enormous way for the family to start off again in Melbourne. Full credit to him for having her spot on for todays race. We really knew that she does not like wet tracks and although we were a bit concerned after her run in the Bletchingly, Ben said to forget about it as she just did not go an inch. It was nice that we had a good track today and she really showed how tough she is, winning and also giving the rest of the field weight. I was a bit worried in the run as the blinkers fired her up a bit and turning for home I thought "Oh No", but Ben was able to secure a run and she basically did the rest. It is fantastic to win another Group race for Ontrack Thoroughbreds and the great group of owners in this mare as Grant Morgan has always been a great supporter of ours. This was only her second start this preparation, so there will be some improvement to come and there are some nice races for her down the track." Commented John Meagher
