Overcoming very warm conditions at Ladbrokes Park, Bugari proved too strong for his rivals in winning the 1300m Le Pines Funerals BM64 Handicap. After a very unlucky third at his previous start, the instructions to jockey Ben Melham were to keep him out of trouble and give him the right opportunity. These were pretty much carried out to the letter, with Melham eventually going forward and settling outside the leader. From there is was a matter of waiting until the appropriate time to move and when asked for an effort, the son of Captain Sonador went to the line strongly.

"I am really pleased to be able to win today and Ben followed instructions to the letter. He was a "muck lather" before the race due to the heat, so I was a little bit worried, but in the end it did not affect his performance. This fellow is probably still about 6 months away and he will be much better when he matures a bit more physically and mentally. So the two races he has won so far are a real bonus. We are expecting him to be competitive in better races than this one down the track, so we might look to give him a bit of a break now. Congratulations to all of the owners, there are quite a few of them and I would really like to thank them for allowing us to bring him along slowly and not rushing him. Their patience is definitely starting to show dividends. Also our staff continue to do a tremendous job, so a big thanks you to them as well." Commented Chris Meagher
