Handsome Thief showed all the signs that he may be returning to his best form when he stormed home to win the 1200m Sports Hub Open Handicap at Doomben. After jumping from an inside gate and with good speed on, jockey Jeff Lloyd allowed the gelding to drift back in the field, where he looked to travel comfortably. Although spotting the leaders six or seven lengths turning for home he unleashed a withing run over the final 200m to steal the race from stable mate Divine Dice on the line.
"It was a super win, and a lot of credit must go to Andy Kermond and the staff in Brisbane who are all extremely dedicated and do a fantastic job with the horses here. This guy has had quite a few issues and we have put a lot of time in to get him right and it showed today, with the softer track definitely helping. Also it was great that we were able to give Jeff a winner so close to his retirement as we have had much success together over the years. Many thanks again to Paul Fudge and the team at Waratah for their ongoing support and it was great to have another winner for them." Commented John Meagher
