El Chaparro broke his maiden status if fine style, coming with a withering burst to win the 1600m Sale Cup Day Maiden Plate. Starting from an outside gate, jockey Jake Noonan, allowed the son of High Chaparral to settle at the rear of the field and find his feet. Coming to the corner he then bought him to the outside and he stormed home, making up many lengths to win quite easily.
"It is taking a while for the penny to drop with this fellow and it still hasn't, with sheer ability getting him home today. When he gets it all together he will make a very nice staying type and we are looking forward to increasing the distance of his races. We will probably have to consider some gear changes before his next run, to try and get him out of this habit of lugging in. Congratulations to our very long supporting owners, Heran Racing, it is always great to have a winner for them. Also thanks to our staff who continue to do a great job with our horses and this win was a real team effort."Commented John Meagher
